Permitting extra individuals to reside in single-family properties is seen as one option to fight the excessive value of housing in Austin. One-third of Austinites are cost-burdened by housing — that means round 30% or extra of their revenue goes towards housing — and 15% are extraordinarily cost-burdened, with 50% or extra of their revenue getting used for housing, in response to a 2022 report from HousingWorks Austin.
